Sample CD come fast and furious these days, but the latest offering from Drumdrops and Loopmasters is a little different. Recorded in Jamaica and London at legendary studios like Channel One and Randys, Drum Drops in Dub isn’t so much a master class in reggae drumming, as a master reggae drummer in a box.
The two discs contain 2.8GB of drum tracks recorded from 69-143 beats per minute, with more thank 600 Wav samples of loops, FX , percussion, hi hats, tambourine and shaker loops. Ever wanted to capture that classiclate 70’s Jamaican sound with the spring reverb and echo? Well now you can, and you can do it with one of the most prolific reggae drummers on the planet.
Style Scott has played drums for Jamaican legends such as Gregory Isaacs, Barrington Levy and Israel Vibration to name just a few. He’s also worked alongside some of dubs top producers and engineers such as King Tubby, Prince Jammy and Scientist, and these live recorded samples certainly carry the same pedigree.
The 24 classic full length drum tracks range from 69-143 bpm and are suppled in multi track format, each featuring separate kicks, snares, toms, overheads, percussion and FX, making itreally easy to construct your own drum tracks in minutes. The files are neatly arranged in BPM ordermaking selection quick and easy, and have been specially tempo mapped in Pro Tools, Logic and Cubase session files. The gatefold case boasts that the beats were mixed on a classic Neve desk from their original 2 inch master tapes, and judging by the excellent sound quality, I for one don’t doubt them.
As with previous Loopmasters projects this is a well put together ste of samples. Whatever your style – reaggae, hip hop, drum and bass or house music – you should check out what Drum Drops in Dub has to offer.
