Chris Cowie gets 5/5 from DJ Mag!

Aberdeen’s own Chris Cowie has been rocking Shizzuhl since before most of us had even bought a record or CD so it’s fair to say this man knows how to rock a groove.

Now, make no mistake, this collection does not have broad ranging appeal. But if you like driving, underground dance music then you won’t be disappointed. This could be techno, trance or… well, that’s about it. It says tech0house on the label too, but only at the most driving end of the scale.

But that’s not an insult. Whether it’s dirty little techno grooves, plinky sounds, hardcore or old school trance (and we mean the really old dirty German stuff), this collection has so many amazing full-on loops that there are probably at least 50+ viable big tunes in here based solely on the riffs and grooves found in this package. Then, of course, there are the individual hits – but sod that, this collection’s all about some stunning and lovingly crafted loops for your slicing and dicing pleasure. So, if you fancy making something really banging then this is an essential purchase.

The final word? Awesome. And much more clever than a cursory listen with an untrained ear could ever tell.

Verdict: 5/5
