Danny Byrd Drum & Bass Vol. 2 - iDJ Review

Loopmasters have joined forces with Danny Byrd for another release in their revered sample pack series. One of the first artists to sign to Hospital Records, Byrd’s own imitable take on soulful, vocal drum & bass garnished with influences from house, disco, jazz and R&B has become a staple in the scene.

Boasting a varied library of samples and presets to help any budding (or experienced) producer create a crisp and slick drum & bass sound, this pack includes an ample amount of samples, including drum loops, fulfilling lead hooks, music loops, and a selection of shaker and tambourine patterns.

All the musical loops are marked with their key, helping the user keep their productions in tune should they be the basis of a tack or used in a sampler. The drum loops on offer are thick and fat and with many of them broken down into separate parts, you can mix and match or rearrange them as you like – this is something many sample packs do not offer, and is a huge positive.

On top of the samples there are some great patches for all the usual soft samplers such as Halion & Kontakt. These include more drums and bass patches for that authentic tear-out sound. There are also beat fills and FX risers: these items offer the user the chance to add extra depth to tracks and can be hard for a beginner to re-produce.

In all, this is a really beneficial sample pack worth buying if you are looking to create impressive drum & bass or breakbeats. Although the selection of musical loops might not be to everybody’s taste, its ample bundle of well thought-out sounds and pre-sets will help add richness to your work.
