Joey Youngman 4.5/5 in DJ Mag!
Joey Youngman is a talented American producer whose MySpace page lists his style as house and disco house. But don’t let this fool you. His ‘Jacked Out Future House’ collection – part of Loopmasters’ Artist Series – while not universally useful, lives up to the name perfectly, and has far more to offer than the cheesy filtered floor-filling nonsense the term disco implies.
In fact, it’s all very credible material, ideally suited for the type of rolling bar-room house we have come to expect from the US. Thanks to some cool basslines, filtered grooves and largely chunky drum loops, there is something here for the deep house, breakbeat and even the odd garage head.
The musical loops are smooth and funky, the vocals are deep and largely useful (if you ignore the word ‘rap’ in the listings), the sounds are all top quality, and there’s a nice selection of ready-Recycled loops for all you Reason users out there.
So, another winner from Loopmasters then, although it’s worth listening to some demos before you buy, as this will have limited use for anybody making more uptempo or underground genres.
Verdict 4.5/5
