Ten Stars From MTM For BOP: Minimal Drum & Bass
Every now and then, and artist comes along who manages to strike a perfect balance between different genres and create something that feels fresh. BOP is a producer from Saint Petersburg in Russia whose music combines elements of deep techno and minimalist dubstep with IDM and ambient drum and bass. He has already had several releases on Hospital Records and their sister label Med School.
BOP: Minimal Drum and Bass is available as a download in four versions: Apple Loops, Live Pack and Refill, plus a main zip version that includes ACIDised Wavs and Rex2 loops, plus single hits and sampler patches for Kontakt, Halion, NNXT, EXS24 and SFZ. If you're in doubt as to which version you want, visit the Loopmasters website, where you'll find a handy guide.
Once unpacked you get a 430mb of 16 bit loops and 75mb of hits, plus 33 instruments patches with the sounds mapped out. All of the production is outstanding, with an astonishing attention to detail and some of the warmest and most beautiful sounds we've ever heard.
All of the 170bpm beats are of the electronic variety but have been processed with lo-grit and had the aggression removed from the top end to produce spacious but crunchy D&B and dubstep style grooves.
As a useful addition, the subtle and melancholic atmos-pads and musical loops have both tight looped versions and samples with the release tails intact. There is also a superb collection of glitch loops and bass, drum and FX hits.
The only slight disappointment is the bass and synth loops, of which there could be more. Overall, though, this is a fantastic pack of immaculately produced sounds and loops that's packed with originality and ice cold charm. It's a must for anyone writing downbeat electronic music in any genre who wants to be inspired by something a little different.
A superb library of loops and sounds brimming with beatiful, warm, and intricate production.
