TheNews.co.uk Review: Freemasons

Wahey! For those of you who journeyed into 'mesmerised' land when listening to the Freemasons' ace remix of Beyonce's Ring the alarm, you'll know that anything with the Freemasons moniker on it will ooze quality and class - so you'll need no prompting to buy this superb collection.

It's incredible to think this is Loopmasters' 100th release in their Artist Series (where have the years gone?) and what a way to mark the 'centenary'. You'll be struck by the sound quality first of all - faultless - and then be bowled over by the good variety of loops, samples. You get no fewer than 21 bass loops, 138 drum loops, 135 inspirational music loops, 296 one shot bass tones, 80 FX samples, 125 instrument one shots, 600 synth samples, and 350 single drum sounds. All the sounds are perfect for club bangers, so if you love the likes of deep, progressive, tech and mainroom house, electro and pop this is right up your street.

The library weighs in at an impressive 2.6GB and featuring no less than 1,750 samples recorded in pristine 24Bit, with 291 loops between the preferred dance floor tempo of 126-128bpm, and 1,466 one shots.

Also included is an unrivalled collection of 111 patches for Halion, Kontakt, EXS, SFZ and Reason NNXT compatible soft samplers.

For those folk who don't know about the skills of the Freemasons' duo, a bit of background: The Freemasons need little introduction in the electronic music industry. The Grammy nominated remixers and producers from UK's eclectic Brighton music scene have forged an eight-year career that have seen them become first choice remixers for the biggest artists across the globe. With a CV containing Beyonce, Katy Perry, Kylie, Whitney Houston and a gig list to match (not to mention six consecutive UK hit singles) it is easy to see why they may wish to keep their studio sounds under wraps . This is however not the Freemasons way. 100% Remix Tools is a sample pack with a difference.

In 2011, The Freemasons moved into a brand new studio and started work on new material. Part of that process was months of careful sound development to create a new batch of drums, FX, processes and instruments that have the power needed for today's dance music productions. Eight months of work finally came to fruition this spring with this pack. 100% Remix Tools is a collection of upfront, highly processed, carefully crafted choice sounds and samples, procured from all manner of mouthwatering analog and digital machines and software, and represent a large part of the actual sound bank created for the new Freemasons material. These are the sounds the Freemasons are using right now - this week. So there you have it - a genuine must-have collection that any self-respecting DAW dabbler should cherish.
