Future Music Review: Sounds From The Modular
U&A Recordings Mike Hulme has coaxed a huge array of sounds out of his very serious modular synth setup (details of which are listed on the Loopmasters website) to create this 1.6GB library of analogue basses, rhythm loops, pads, leads, FX, noises blips, textures and more. If genre titles were to be assigned, House and Techno would be at the top of the list (for the rhythmic material, at least), although more overtly contemporary styles (Dubstep, etc) are also brought to mind at mind at times. Each synth patch has actually been recorded and supplied in two (or, in a few cases, more) versions — one dry, the others processed with effects. Thankfully, the effects in question have been applied with supreme taste and musicality, particularly in the Chords folder, which is a definite highlight.
Overall, this is a superb collection of beautifully recorded synth sounds that any electronic, Urban or Dance producer should easily get their money's worth from.
9/10
