FHP review from iDJ 4/5

You want house? You want funky? Well get down brothers and sisters ‘cos next up is the latest Loopmasters title… Funky House Producer

Loopmasters continue to extend their range of dance sample CDs with this one doing exactly what it says on the tin. Funky House Producer is optimised for use in Reason with patches for Dr. Rex and the NN-XT sampler, though with every sound also in WAV format its material can be used in any sampler in any sequencing software.

The title packs a lot into its 1,500 sample count, covering everything you could want to complete a tune, splitting things between loops, kits, instruments and sound banks. Loops are available for drums (from chunky and shuffling to pumping and percussive), bass (a choice of live guitar and synth) and melody (including some lovely Rhodes and classic filtered lines) at tempos of 115, 120, 125 and 130 BPM, so covering deep to funky house speed, though obviously these can be adjusted far and above the rate at which they are recorded.

The overall quality and range of the instruments and loops is very good, plus you get some tasty FX, though with everything quite generic there may not be much to tempt the seasoned professional. However, it is also sure to satisfy the producer just starting out, still building up the sample library, and with this on your computer there’s little else that you’d need to start producing the freshest of funky house.

iDJ verdict 4/5
