Native Instruments' superb Massive X synth is still finding its feet as an alternative to its venerable sans-X namesake, but nonetheless, preset packs are starting to appear for it. This one is geared up for cutting-edge house production, presenting 100 patches - 36 basses,eight FX, 21 leads, seven pads, three 'percussions' and 25 stabs - with demonstrative MIDI files for 27 of them. The sound designers have exercised some admirable restraint in the basses and leads, maintaining the clarity and focus required by the genre, and macros are deployed throughout to great effect.
