Constellations combines complex synth layers and organic-sounding beats and textures to build up a cosmic palette of cinematic sounds. Most of the more than 160 bassline, drum, percussion, guitar and synth loops roll on at about 120bpm but there’s a lot of variety in the style of the drum patterns in particular. There’s a small handful of atmosphere, drum and effects one-shots with accompanying patches too. The production is detailed and evocative, with arpeggios that pulsate and swell their way through long and moody reverb tails, and reversed guitars that stutter and glitch in a loose and organic way. Saturation is used effectively to add texture, noise and atmosphere throughout but occasionally feels like it’s getting in the way of the more intricate sound design.
