Psychedelic Soul – Live Sessions is the work of Richard Raymond II, a producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Colorado Springs, CO. The premise for this pack was to create authentic live performance loops that lean into borrowed chords and harmonic movement outside of a single key—offering flavors and emotional tension that can only exist when music momentarily breaks the rules. This is psychedelic soul captured in real time, with feel, nuance and intention front and center.
The drums were tracked live on a birch Tama kit featuring a custom 24” green sparkle bass drum paired with a fluffy kick beater for added weight and softness. The primary snare used throughout the pack is a vintage Pearl brass shell snare, delivering a bright yet warm crack with plenty of body and musical ring.
Cymbals include 14” Avedis New Beat hi-hats from the 1980s, a 20” Avedis Zildjian CIE Constantinople ride, and a 24” Dream Bliss ride, providing a wide palette of washy textures, deep sustain and warm, evolving overtones.
The kit was recorded using the Glyn Johns method, with a Shure KSM-44A overhead, Telefunken M80 on snare, and an Electro-Voice RE20 on kick. This setup captures a natural stereo image with depth and movement, emphasizing feel, dynamics and musical timing over rigid quantization.
The guitar loops span dreamy textures and deep pocket grooves, performed on a Fender Stratocaster, a wood-grained Telecaster outfitted with humbuckers and Les Paul electronics and a sunburst Tele featuring vintage-voiced pickups (P-90 neck, Broadcaster bridge). All guitar content is provided as both wet and dry signals—the wet signal running through a curated chain of pedals and an all-tube Orange Rocker 32, alongside a clean DI for maximum flexibility.
The keyboard loops were performed on a Korg SV-1, delivering rich, vintage-accurate tones while also providing MIDI versions of the performances. This allows producers to retain the original feel while freely adapting tempo, harmony or sound source to fit their project.
Bass loops were recorded using a limited-edition short-scale Fender Rascal bass strung with tapewound strings, producing a thick, rounded low end with plenty of character. These bass performances anchor the harmonic movement of the pack while maintaining a loose, organic feel.
The vocal loops in Psychedelic Soul – Live Sessions feature emotive, atmospheric performances that feel like Thom Yorke singing lyrics inspired by RÜFÜS DU SOL. They’re designed for late-night dancefloor introspection.
Psychedelic Soul – Live Sessions is designed for producers seeking loops that feel played, not programmed—perfect for soul, downtempo, hip-hop, indie and experimental genres where vibe and musicality matter more than rigid key conformity.
