Percussion can be found all around you! From the clacking of your mechanical keyboard to the dripping of water in your kitchen sink, these sounds can be repurposed and layered into your beats to create interesting organic textures within your music.
With Obscura, we were influenced to do just this; to create useful rhythms out of the mundane - we took a look around the studio, office, and home, sampling everything we could get our hands on. Then we processed and warped the sounds with filters, distortion & pitch shifters, chopped them up, dropped them into a sampler, and started creating percussion loops.
Staplers, coffee mugs, buttons, switches, kitchen appliances, squeaky chairs, toys, cables, desks, food, water, creaky floorboards, keyboards, office stationery, game controllers, vases, glasses, tools, clothes, etc. These are just a few items we initially sampled (the ones we can remember anyway).
To complement the percussion, we also recorded some instruments: guitars, bass, kalimbas, flutes, and a glockenspiel were given the same dirty processing, then resequenced to create glitchy & percussive melodic loops.
Obscura will add character and texture to your beats. Check out the demo to hear these sounds in action!
