Refractor is 2.55 GB of proper, ears-first Psytrance, built by one of our in-house producer team. You know they’re the right person for the job when their credentials include tracks on Dacru, Expo, Iono, Phantasm and Blue Tunes. Those names alone should make you stand to attention, but listen to the preview and you’ll probably bypass the blurb below and add it to today’s shopping list in a heartbeat.

Running at full force from the first sample, Refractor has its foundations forged inside custom Reaktor 6 ensembles built from the ground up, ensuring everything you hear is fresh, new and absolutely on point. The whole collection moves, breathes and evolves in ways stock synths simply can’t.

The synth stack includes Serum 2, Zebra 2.8, A.N.A. 2 and Vital — four very different beasts that all work like magic. Programmed with originality by our producer, they ensure leads cut, basslines threaten and melodic lines flow with real character. No standard preset-browser filler included.

Then keep that digital chain going, mixing through Universal Audio, Acustica Audio and Plugin Alliance, before finishing off with a LUNA stack of hardware emulations. You’re now firmly in some serious Psytrance territory.

Numbers-wise, there’s a proper stash to dig through. 956 Psytrance samples sit between 140 and 147 BPM, fully key-tagged across 22 keys, so nothing turns up unlabelled and useless at 2am under moody lights and a serious lack of sleep.

449 loops carry the bulk of the weight, with arps, basses, drum grooves and drum tops built to lock together, plus a handful of FM and grid synth loops for those moments when you want something a little sharper and more refined.

Atmospheres, textures and exemplary vocal loops fill those gaps when you’re always looking for something but don’t quite know what to use.

Then there are 408 one-shots, including essential kicks, claps, snares and hats handling the fundamentals, backed by a stupidly good 91 synth FX and 82 synth one-shots. Oh yeah, don’t forget the fills, impacts, uplifters and downlifters, all ready to be implemented for instantaneous perfection.

Finally, round it all off with 99 MIDI files covering bass, lead, FM and synth loops. At this point, Refractor is looking like way more than something seriously fancy — it’s fundamental.

Let’s put it this way: Refractor isn’t changing the Psytrance sound. It’s just making it sound better. Way better!
