Ableton certified clinician Keith Mills shows us a quick tip for splitting sounds into different frequency bands, so that the bands can be easily processed independently.

This technique is great for applying side-chain compression without effecting the low end, and also good when applying stereo imaging as you can effectively ‘mono’ the bass and spread the higher frequencies, adding space and width to your audio.  Equally you can also add different modulation to different frequencies adding unique sonic interest to audio parts.
